Warm Holiday Wishes from Alumni Relations

Alumni Holiday CardThe Office of Alumni Relations wishes you a joyous holiday season and a happy new year.

The holiday card project is a tradition at Arcadia that spans more than three decades.  A design by senior Graphic Design major Michael Puglisi '12 was chosen for this year’s Alumni Relations holiday card. Georgene Pilling '04M, Program Director, chose the winning card design from pieces submitted by students enrolled in Graphic Design IV with Assistant Professor David Copestakes '02.

Puglisi says, "The most challenging aspect of the project was getting my message across in such a small format. My design was inspired by Arcadia's continuous efforts to expand and move forward. The snow globe is supposed to place the viewer on the new bridge of the University Commons, looking up at Arcadia’s oldest icon, the Castle. The message is that as we continue to look forward—especially during this holiday season—we are never forgetting where we came from." Read more.

Young Alumni 'Arcadia Madness' Competition Leading to the Commons Dedication

For many alumni, the opening of the long-awaited Commons is something to be celebrated. From donating to At Home & In The World: The Campaign for Arcadia University to enduring construction and detours on campus, this project is something that has touched each person in a special way. With building and renovations nearly complete, alumni and friends of Arcadia University are welcome back to campus on Monday, Jan. 23, for a ribbon cutting ceremony and the official dedication of the Commons.

The Commons is sure to be an important and popular landmark on Arcadia’s campus as many current buildings have been for decades. To commemorate this exciting time in the University’s history, alumni are invited to participate in a Arcadia Madness competition, similar to the annual basketball "March Madness" bracket. In this game, popular Arcadia and Beaver College landmarks and traditions will "face off" over the course of three weeks, leading up to the dedication of the Commons. Watch the Jan. 1 edition of Chronicles for a link to the bracket and to begin voting. Every few days a new set of four "opponents" will be posted for you to choose your favorite Arcadia tradition or landmark, with winners advancing through to the next round. The grand winner will be announced at the Jan. 23 Young Alumni evening reception in the new Commons, which starts at 7 p.m.

Career Development Event: Professional Networking 101

Gail MadisonAre you a Volunteer Career Mentor? Most everyone has heard the statement: "It's not what you know; it's who you know." In an effort to help students expand the "who you know" portion of that equation, Arcadia University's Career Development and Alumni Relations offices are hosting the 2nd Annual Professional Networking 101 on Friday, Feb. 29, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Networking expert and Arcadia alumna Gail Madison '72 will present the "dos and don'ts" of professional networking and illustrate several effective networking strategies. Following the presentation, alumni will help the students practice their networking skills and expand their professional networks during a speed-networking session.
