Career Mentoring at Arcadia
Many of the mentors in attendance are also involved with Arcadia’s Honors Program mentoring, which requires a commitment from both students and mentors to maintain contact with each other for the entire time the student is enrolled at the University. These mentors returned to campus on Nov. 11 for the second event held for the Honors Program this year. The mentors were asked to share a Beaver College/Arcadia University memory with their mentee before enjoy brunch and a game of trivia. The afternoon concluded with a group community service project for Aid for Friends. |

Emily Scott ’09 recently started her own business, noting that it involved “using all the wonderful knowledge I gained from my BA!” Compendium is a progressive independent designers’ boutique and collective that opened this past summer. Jenean Douglas ’82 has published her first book, From Darkness...To Light, a 31-day devotional for parents, available this month via Westbow Press, a division of Thomas Nelson Publishing Company. “The book is about my journey with my twins who were diagnosed with autism at the age of three and a half years," says Douglas. "It also includes the stories of seven other women who share how God gave them peace in the midst of their storm."
Linda McManus ’97 is having a Photography show on Dec. 6th. "Included in the show are some images that I created for my thesis under the incredible guidance of Judy Taylor," says McManus.
Alumni Volunteer Career Mentors have been busy this month. The annual Professional Networking 101 took place on Thursday, Nov. 8. After some initial mingling between students and alumni mentors, Connie Grier ’07 , founder of The RESPECT Alliance, a non-profit corporation and CKG Consulting, LLC, spoke to students about the benefits and process of professional networking. Afterwards, alumni mentors shared their positive networking experiences. The evening ended with a networking session for students and mentors.
