Following the Storm: A Message from President Oxholm
Dear Alumni and Friends,
As clean up continues from Hurricane Sandy and the Thanksgiving Holiday approaches, I want to send a note of care and concern to those who suffered loss from the hurricane. We are still receiving word of alumni, family and friends who remain without power or any promise of when it might return.
Many of us had parents and family who found themselves in trouble. Some of us had trees fall on our houses or cars; others lived along the seaboard and in communities that suffered severe damage; some have homes that are no more. Read more.
Reception for Shirley Liddle
Did you represent the Knights as an athlete? Arcadia Athletic Alumni Association (Quad A) will hold a reception on Wednesday, Nov. 28, during the women’s and men’s basketball double-header against Albright College. The women’s game begins at 6 p.m., and the men’s game starts at 8 p.m.
Extend your well-wishes at the reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to Shirley Liddle, who recently retired as the Director of Athletics and Recreation after serving the campus for nearly 20 years.
Shirley will also be honored at a ceremony between the two games. Register for this and other events at www.arcadia.edu/alumnievents.
Photo: Liddle, pictured with President Oxholm, was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in October 2012.
Memorial for Dr. Norman Johnston, Nov. 18
Dr. Norman Johnston, Professor Emeritus of Sociology, will be remembered by the campus community during a service honoring him on Sunday, Nov. 18 at noon in Grey Towers Castle.
Dr. Johnston served the University since 1962 and enjoyed a successful career as a published author and scholar focusing his study on the history of punishment, imprisonment and changes within prison architecture throughout the world.
In lieu of flowers, his family has asked that contributions be made to Arcadia University for a scholarship in both his honor and his memory. Read more.

5K, Alumni Picnic Among Highlights of Homecoming 2012
Alumni returned to campus on Saturday, Oct. 13, to celebrate a festive and beautiful homecoming, enjoy the student carnival along the Walk of Pride, join families at the afternoon picnic and cheer on the soccer, field hockey and volleyball teams.
The campus grounds were beautiful, decked out in autumn splendor, and alumni were amazed at the growth of the University and the addition of new facilities, including the Commons and the beautiful new turf field where the field hockey and men’s soccer games were played. Story and photos.
