Annual Fund Sponsors Student Philanthropy Day
Arcadia University hosted Student Philanthropy Day, a new annual opportunity for students to invest in their class and University, on April 3.
Each year, students will now have the opportunity to donate $3 toward their Senior Week experience—the more students participating each year, the more funds collected and the greater the Senior Week experience. All surplus dollars will be rolled over into the Senior Class Gift account. Previous class gifts have included a library kiosk, picnic tables and benches.
“Arcadia students already support many wonderful causes,” says Vanessa Jackson, Assistant Director of the Annual Fund. “Whether it’s raising funds and awareness for hunger and homelessness with the annual Empty Bowl event or helping to fund the Water Project to provide water wells to a village in Africa, Arcadia students are more than aware of the importance of giving back!" she notes. This year, more than 100 students participated in the effort.
Winningest Coach in Arcadia University History Notches 400th Victory
Arcadia University Head Softball Coach Linda Detra—the winningest coach in the 158-year history of Arcadia University—reached an elite milestone on April 15 by posting her 400th victory when her team secured a 9-2 victory in the second game of its afternoon doubleheader against local out-of-conference rival Gwynedd-Mercy College at Blankley Field. After Gwynedd-Mercy took the opener, 6-5, Arcadia began the second game focused on getting back in the win column. The Knights saw their efforts pay off in the first when the full lineup made an appearance at the dish and produced a 5-0 lead. Read more.
Chapters and Clubs Expanding Across the Country
This spring, local gatherings across the country have been reconnecting alumni. Recently, Karin Egan ’59 hosted a luncheon in Wilmington, N.C. In Myrtle Beach, S.C., alumni met to watch Arcadia's baseball and softball teams in action during their annual spring break trips.
If you live in Suffolk or Nassau County in New York, Lauren Uribe ’86 would like to hear from you. Uribe is planning to charter a Long Island Regional Chapter of Arcadia alumni. Sandra Howard ’64 will be gathering a group in the Seattle, Washington area this spring or summer. If you live in any of these areas and are interested in joining the groups, visit www.arcadia.edu/alumnichapters and get in touch with the contact person. More photos.
