An Evening of Chocolate and Wine
A sold-out crowd enjoyed an Evening of Chocolate and Wine in the Mirror Room with Chocolatier Tom Sciascia ’86 and Sommelier Cosmo Mullen. We sampled dark chocolate truffles and raspberries with a Washington grown Cabernet Sauvignon and creamy white chocolates with a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. All agreed that this is an alumni event that must be repeated! Tom sells his Truffles at The Stockton Market (19 Bridge St., Stockton, N.J.) every Saturday and Sunday. Visit his website. Sciascia commented, “What an amazing evening. It was wonderful being back at Arcadia and seeing so many familiar faces. I loved every minute of sharing my passion for chocolate art with everyone. Along with the incredible wines, decadent chocolates, and fantastic company, we laughed, shared stories, and created a night to truly treasure...and until next year’s event....Cheers!” View event photos.

Student Phonathon

Student workers fervently are calling alumni to lend support for AU fundraising efforts before the semester ends. Their focus is asking for much needed unrestricted contributions and scholarship support. Every student caller is a recipient of scholarship or financial aid, so they know just how important financial support from our alumni is. Vanessa Jackson, Assistant Director of the Annual Fund, remarked, “Each student can genuinely say to the donor once they’ve secured the pledge or gift, ‘as a student on scholarship, your gift truly makes a difference to me.’ Each student caller plans to pay it forward once they become alums to keep this wonderful tradition of giving back going.”
Students will continue to call through the end of April. You also can make a secure donation online or by calling the Annual Fund office at 215-572-2945. For inclusion in this year’s drive, your gift is appreciated by June 30. |
Commons Geothermal Well Drilling Begins
Drilling began Monday, April 4, on 42 geothermal wells that will use the sustainable energy source to heat and cool the new University Commons. The wells will cover about two-thirds of the field area in front of the new student center. The work is expected to take several weeks, depending on weather and the rock layers encountered by the rigs, including a limestone vein known to run under the campus. Several drilling rigs will be working simultaneously, drilling each well 396 feet in depth. Read more.

Knight Society
The Knight Society honors Arcadia undergraduate and graduate alumni who have consistently and loyally given gifts, of any size, to the University.
Judy McNamara, Director of the Annual Fund, remarks, “This Society is a special way to encourage recent graduates to begin a tradition of annual giving and also is a wonderful opportunity to honor Arcadia’s most loyal alumni.” In this fiscal year, July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2011, members will include those donors who have made gifts for three consecutive fiscal years.
An annual “Knight Out” reception is held during Alumni Homecoming at Fall Fest to honor all members of the Knight Society. In addition, members’ names have a special notation in the yearly Annual Report. View 2010 Reception photos.
