Arcadia Supports Virginia Tech

career“We’re Hokies, too!” In an effort to pay respects to those affected by the tragedy at Virginia Tech last week, members of the Arcadia community outfitted themselves in Virginia Tech’s colors, maroon and orange, on Friday, April 20, as part of National Orange and Maroon Effect Day. Virginia Tech's Alumni Association asked the nation to wear orange and maroon on Friday. Arcadia was one of many universities where students, faculty and staff took a moment to come together in a show of support for the Hokies. Message from the President

Delaware Campus Opens (Cont'd)

The Delaware Health commission is working on issues such as the uninsured and access to healthcare. “In my view, physician assistants are a great way of extending the primary care network.” Carney added that the state is extending a loan repayment program to include physician assistants in the hope to attract students to study and practice.

Karl Karlbacher, New Castle County Director of Redevelopment, said there is “tremendous need for medical practitioners in New Castle County, primarily because our population is aging significantly.” He said the need for healthcare workers is expected to top 17,000 new professionals in New Castle County alone. “This is a great day for New Castle County as much as it is for Arcadia University.”

"Before the arrival of Arcadia’s program," noted Arcadia President Jerry Greiner, “Delaware was one of only seven states in the nation without a physician assistant program,” dependent upon Baltimore and Philadelphia for providers with this training." Dr. Mike Dryer, Chair of Arcadia’s Department of Medical Science and Community Health, thanked the many faculty and staff members who helped develop the facility and the program for their “commitment and collaboration that contributed to making this a great campus.” While the first class of Physician Assistant students begins in May, he expects to add programs in Public Health and Health Education in Fall 2008.

The Arcadia Delaware campus is located at 111 Continental Drive, Suite 201, Newark, Del.
