Psychology Department Offers New Bachelor of Arts in Sport Psychology
   

The Sport Psychology major incorporates a year of study abroad after students have studied psychology basics at Arcadia's campus in Glenside, Pa. Students interested in this Majors Abroad Program will spend their junior year abroad, either at the University of Stirling (Scotland) or the University of Ulster (Northern Ireland), where they will complete a minimum of three courses in sports science or Sport Psychology. Upon their return, they will conduct their senior course doing an internship in the field of sport psychology and write a thesis on sport psychology.

New Director of Graduate Programs in Counseling Psychology Announced
   
The Department of Psychology is pleased to announce that Dr. Eleonora Bartoli will be the Director of Graduate Programs in Counseling Psychology and Assistant Professor, beginning in June, 2007. Dr. Bartoli grew up in Rome, Italy and earned her BA degree at Brandeis University and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Chicago. She spent her junior year abroad at the Sorbonne and Institut Catholique de Paris. Her dissertation research was a study of psychologists’ religious and spiritual backgrounds. She is currently working on measures of multicultural competence in graduate students and the role of allies and advocates in anti-racist work.
   
Psychology Faculty in the News

Dr. Barbara Nodine, Professor and Chair of Psychology, received a Presidential Citation from President Mary Kite, Bowling Green University, President of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology. The citation, a surprise to Nodine, was presented at the American Psychological Association Convention in New Orleans, on Aug. 13 in recognition of her significant career contributions.

Cameron Named Red Cross Volunteer of Year

Dr. Samuel Cameron, Emeritus Professor of Psychology, was named “Outstanding Volunteer of the Year in Mental Health Services” by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Red Cross at its annual Volunteer Recognition Night on Sept. 27. He received the honor for “high performance and commitment in support of the American Red Cross disaster relief efforts.” Read more about his work in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina.

Dr. Marianne Miserandino, Associate Professor of Psychology recently received an award of $5000 from the American Psychological Society Fund for Teaching and Public Understanding of Psychological Science for her project Personality Pedagogy: A wiki for the Teaching of Personality Psychology. The grant covers a period of 1 year and includes funds to publicize the site at national and regional teaching conferences.

Dr. Marianne Miserandino recently published the article, I scream, you scream: Teaching validity and reliability via the Ice Cream Personality Test, Teaching of Psychology (2006). 33 (4): 265-268.

Dr. Steven J. Robbins recently published two articles. Both of the articles include student authors who conducted the research as part of their requirements for the senior capstone course. The student authors are identifyed in bold.

Hoffman, chair of the Biology Department at Arcadia University, and former student Michael McLaughlin, who is currently attending Temple University Law School.

Check out an exciting new web site developed by Dr. Marianne Miserandino of the Arcadia University Psychology Department.

The site, called Personality Pedagogy, draws visitors from over 57 countries and 47 U.S. states and has been translated into18 languages.

Personality Pedagogy is linked to numerous professional sites and is indexed on Google.

Dr. Miserandino established the web site in July of 2006, with the support of a Faculty Development Grant.

Teachers of personality psychology at all levels – high school, AP, undergraduate, graduate – find the site a valuable resource.

Visitors are enthusiastic about the new teaching resource.
