alcohol and other drugs
Suggested Minimum Sanctions for Alcohol
and Other Drug Policy Violations
These are suggested minimum sanctions for violations of the AOD policy. The University reserves the right of hearing officers to apply additional or more serious sanctions when deemed appropriate. Students who do not comply with their sanctions will be subject to further disciplinary action including, but not limited to, parental notification and housing restrictions. Examples of non-compliance include: being under the influence at any mandated meeting; missing a mandated meeting or appointment; being ten (10) or more minutes late for any mandated meeting or session; failure to complete mandated homework; failure to bring completed homework to a meeting; not completing all sanctions as outlined in one’s disciplinary letter; etc.
Illegal Drug Offenses
The University does not condone the use of illegal drugs. Students will face serious repercussions for violations including, but not limited to, counseling/education sessions, disciplinary probation, removal from University housing, fines, parental notification, and a hearing by the Judicial Board that can possibly result in expulsion. While the Cheltenham Police Department may be informed or involved in any illegal drug infraction, they will always be informed in cases where an individual possesses a significant quantity of an illegal drug or is believed to be dealing drugs on campus.
Alcohol Offenses
First Alcohol Offense
In keeping with the educational mission of the University and its commitment to personal accountability, a student who violates the policy for the first time is usually given sanctions that are intended to inform their decisions about their use of alcohol and other drugs.
- Attendance at an AOD meeting closest to the violation date. All homework assignments can be found on the AOD Web site on MyArcadia and must be completed before the meeting. Students who do not complete homework assignments or who are ten (10) or more minutes late will not be permitted to attend the group meeting.
- Attendance at follow-up sessions if required by the Counseling Center staff.
Second Alcohol Offense
A second offense during the time that an individual is a student at Arcadia indicates the need for additional assessment and follow-up with our staff. Requirements must be met within thirty (30) days from the receipt of the sanction or students will need to seek this assessment off-campus.
- Three part assessment by Counseling Center staff.
- Attendance at follow-up sessions if required by the Counseling Center staff.
- Disciplinary probation.
- A $100.00 fine
Third Alcohol Offense

- Parental notification. Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), institutions may reveal information about violations of University policies related to alcohol and other drugs.
- Disciplinary probation.
