Campus NewsArt Galley Seeks Submissions from Students, Staff, Faculty Ribas' work as a curator might be less well known than that of Butler's, but he has an intelligent eye and capacious sensibility. He will be interested in all kinds of drawing and forms of markmaking, as well as works that employ figurative, abstract, and conceptual approaches. It's important to remember that any medium, even paint, is eligible as long as paper is the support. This includes a.ll kinds of printmaking, digital processes, and photography. While I believe that Ribas will pay special attention to how artists employ the particular mediums with which they work, he will be interested in pieces that distinguish themselves by their compelling presence and content. Remember, unlike other juried shows in the region, Works on Paper is selected from actual works brought to the Gallery, not slides or digital files. This not only ensures a consistently outstanding exhibition but makes it very convenient for artists on campus to participate. It's also important to emphasize that there are no size restrictions on entries brought to the Gallery, a limit which often prohibits artists who work at a large scale. Those who get accepted into the show are given the chance to have the Philadelphia Museum of Art consider purchasing their work for its permanent collection in addition to becoming eligible for other professional exhibition opportunities and cash prizes totaling $2,500.
