Campus NewsPracticing Public Health in Philly Canete began volunteering at MOMobile with the help of Dr. Andrea Crivelli-Kovach, Associate Professor and Director of Community Health programs, who completed a project with the Maternity Care Coalition. Due to her dedication and drive, Canete was soon offered full-time employment. She says the experience has been very rewarding and she has a tremendous impact on her patients. For instance, one new mother named one of her triplets Keila in honor of Canete—who she described as a guardian angel. Canete’s achievements don’t end there. She was also the first recipient of the Wallace E. Young Community Service Public Health Award. The award is given to a graduate student in Public Health/Health Education who exemplifies the spirit of community public health outreach in under-served and high-risk minority communities and has engaged in significant health promotion and disease prevention activities through direct service or education. She says she chose Arcadia because of the small class sizes. “You really get to know the faculty and students,” she says. “I enjoyed it a lot.”
