Ghanaian students gather for a photo op.

In addition to encouraging literacy in the area, the library will provide a safe place for students to gather after school and also give the students a chance to excel academically. In the long run, the community, which is currently sustained through fishing and agriculture, will become more educated and grow into an enlightened society. Dotse, a native of Ghana, also wants to encourage other Ghanaians to give back.

“Ghana is at a critical point of her human resource development, and it is my unflinching belief that libraries in our communities will serve as a catalyst that really sends us onto the path of sustainable development,” says Dotse.

The book drive is sponsored by Better World Books as part of Arcadia University Student Activist’s Club Project: Africa.
