Campus NewsWomen's Lacrosse Timony and junior Kate Beers will lead the transition game in the midfield. Last year, Timony gathered a team-high 72 ground balls and caused 18 turnovers, while Beers notched 41 ground ball pick-ups and forced 11 turnovers. With the defensive tandem of Michelle McLoughlin and All-PAC Honorable Mention Stacy Spezanno lost to graduation, the Knights will look to sophomores Briana Polillo and Maura Frischman to limit the number of shots the Knight’s goalkeepers face. The Knights will utilize senior Michelle Leone in net. In 2007, the starting net minder faced 168 shots on goal and played over 770 minutes in goal. Leone, who was the starting goalie for the Women’s Soccer program, will look to improve upon last year’s .414 save percentage and 16.99 goals against. Sophomore Brittany Rasmussen will back up Leone in goal. The starting goalie for Arcadia’s field hockey team, Rasmussen has one season of lacrosse under her belt. Sophomores Danielle Klim, Luminita Hamilton and Abby Napstad are also returning to the Knights lineup, hoping to contribute in the midfield and on attack. Defender Kelly Donahue and midfielder Jenni Groves are expected to stand out among a first-year class that of 10. Selected to finish in last place by the Middle Atlantic Coaches, Arcadia is hoping to surprise a few teams in 2008. The bulk of last season’s goals (104 of 118) were tallied by returning players. The Knights are hoping to elevate their scoring with a balanced attack. “Despite the relative youth of our defense, they look strong and work very well together,” notes Joseph. A solid returning midfield will be the core of the team, and Arcadia will look to make a strong showing in their first year of competition in the Middle Atlantic Conference.
