Campus NewsSlovenian Critic, Director Lead Communications ‘Global Focus’ “Arcadia University’s Global Focus program expands the study of communications beyond its traditional borders of nation and culture and into the realm of international learning,” said Dr. Shekhar Deshpande, Director of Arcadia University’s Communications program. “Integrative group projects that encourage international thinking are fundamental to the Global Focus program.” Arcadia students will view Slovenian films as well as take an active, collaborative role in the event. Students from Arcadia’s Global Focus program will team up with students from The University of Pennsylvania to create a Web site that will contain their reviews, critical essays, and commentaries regarding the films. All relevant courses in Communications incorporate specific contexts of media practice and culture of two countries each year. The purpose is to study different states of development in communications/media in these specific countries. The continuity provided by the focus on two specific countries in all courses creates a climate of global learning. The diversity of perspectives offered in each course (e.g. study of video and film, public relations, journalism, ownership and control issues, cross-cultural interaction, distribution of media content and independence in global media world) broadens the understanding students have of their own world. Assignments in each of these courses focus on the specific issues related to media and communications in these two countries/cultures.
