Wild Diet:

Bicolored tamarins are quadrupedal, arboreal, diurnal animals that feed on fruit, flowers, insects and small vertebrates.  Their diets have also been reported to includes such things as frogs, lizards, nestling birds, birds' eggs, snails, spiders, centipedes, millipedes, galls honey, leaves, bark, and fungi (Egler, 1992).  Some plant extracts such as resin and gum may also form an important part of this species' diet (Emanoil, 1994).  In addition, the foraging and feeding tactics displayed by S.b. bicolor are closely linked to morphological characteristics, such as small size and weight, and claw-like nail, that allowed access to energy-rich resources in different strata of vegetation (Egler, 1992).
