Introducing Arcadia's Business Alumni Association (Continued)
He wanted to create this community after his experiences serving as an active board member on the Temple Fox School of Business Alumni Board and the Young Alumni Board. “That positive experience prompted me to believe we could add the same value at Arcadia.” With the guidance of Dr. Tony Muscia, Executive Director of Arcadia’s M.B.A. with an International Perspective, and Georgene Pilling '04M, Director of Alumni Relations, ABAA has grown steadily over the last few years. There’s a great deal of interest in the organization and ABAA always is looking for new members and ideas. Fellow ABAA Board Member Muriel Lange '07M.B.A. joined because she wanted to share her academic and professional experiences and give something back to Arcadia. “I have found that the position on the ABAA board and participation in the academic arena broadened my perspective beyond my career,” she says. “Arcadia alumni have a great deal to share with me, and they in turn appreciate my professional input.” Both Welch and Lange encourage other alums to get involved because the association is only as successful as its members make it. ABAA always welcomes new members and currently is looking for someone to take over as president and promote the success of the organization. “Where better to share your pride than in the same venue where it was achieved—at Arcadia,” Lange says. To join ABAA or for more information, contact Muscia at musciat@arcadia.edu. M.B.A. Grad Working for Global Firm (Continued)
“Dr. Muscia taught me not only that preparation is power, but perception, in most cases, is everything,” says Brown. “Be yourself, of course, but it’s all about the presentation of the package.” Brown has been jet-setting around the world along with 21 other trainees from nine countries. She spent two weeks in Stockholm, Sweden, before heading to her home base of New York City. The group also was featured on the cover of and profiled in Skanska’s internal publication. “We are the new, young up-and-coming faces of the company,” says Brown. “It feels good to have been chosen to represent the company internationally and to be so young.” In May, she was off to Karkow and Warsaw, Poland, for leadership training. She then headed back to Stockholm, this time for five months to work with Skanska’s Residential Development Group. Her roles will include assisting clients and strategizing new campaigns to mend a broken housing market. Brown is poised to become a manager and already is succeeding in training thanks to the skills she learned at Arcadia. “I know who I am and am very confident in my strengths,” she says. She also says that her Capstone coursework prepared her in a number of ways, including making her aware of how colors, gestures and personalities are perceived differently depending on one’s culture. With the help of her M.B.A., Brown is at the beginning of a very successful career in international business. |
